Coretta Scott King was far more than the woman behind Martin Luther King Jr. She was an activist, artist, mother, and leader in her own right, whose strength and composure helped hold her family together through some of the most dangerous years of the Civil Rights Movement. Even in the face of threats to her family and her own safety, she remained steadfast, using her voice to advocate for justice and equality.
 
A classically trained singer who could have built a career in music, Coretta ultimately devoted that voice to something larger. She understood the power of music to move people, but she also understood the power of her own voice. Through activism, public speaking, and organizing, she transformed that voice into an instrument for change by carrying the work forward long after Martin's death and establishing a legacy that was distinctly her own.
